Hutu culture

The Catholic Church which was brought by German and Belgian colonists is one of the most powerful institutions. There were indigenous beliefs before the colonialism and Sunni Islamic beliefs which may or may not have been there before the colonists. Of the eight million people that live in Rwanda two thirds of it is now Catholic. The Churches are for both Hutu and Tutsi making it uneasy between the two ethnic groups. Some members of the church societies are allegedly co-responsible for the growing hatred between the ethnic groups. War broke out between the two groups and during the violence the churches which Tutsi and Hutu’s could once pray together are no longer safe. The outside influences are still present with north Americans and Europeans Building
